Beech Tree Bud - Known as the 'tree of everlasting youth’, this extract helps build collagen and elastin in the skin. While assisting in active cell turnover.
Poria Cocos Polysaccharide - Purified fraction rich in polysaccharides and triterpenes increases microcirculation and redensifies skin to firm and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines for more youthful texture.
Squalane - Sustainably sourced from sugarcane to moisturise & keep skin soft, healthy and smooth.
Bacuri Seed Butter - Emollient natural oil that will softens, smoothe and replenish the skin
Typical characteristics of peri/menopausal skin
Dullness: Lowered levels of estrogen result in less production and repair of collagen and elastin in the dermis, combined with depletion of moisture skin loses its “glow” and often looks shallow/flat
Lost of elasticity/sagging: Lower levels of estrogen makes skin prone to sagging, thinning, wrinkles estrogens stimulate fat deposits over the female body; as estrogen levels drop during menopause, fat deposits tend to become redistributed and often concentrated over the abdomen and/or on the thighs and buttocks. The result is a loss of supportive fat below the skin of the face, neck, hands and arms; this allows sagging wrinkles to appear, and the skin over these areas is less easily compressed, as it loses its mobility.
Loss of collagen: Elastosis: Protein synthesis, particularly that of collagen and elastin, are partially controlled by estrogens. Thus, during menopause, the lowered estrogen levels result in less production and repair of collagen and elastin in the dermis of the skin.
Acne: During menopause, as estrogen levels decrease, testosterone (produced by the adrenal glands) is no longer masked in the woman’s body. Testosterone reveals itself by stimulating sebaceous glands to secrete thicker sebum, giving the appearance of oily skin (and the tendency toward adult acne in some women).
Hyperpigmentation/Age spots: Estrogens also temper melanin production. That is, estrogen exerts a regulatory effect on the production of melanin; it keeps it under control. In areas of the skin that have been exposed to UV rays over the years, as menopause arrives, melanin synthesis increases (due to lack of regulation by estrogen). This can result in brown “age spots” appearing on the face, hands, neck, arms and chest of many women.
Hot flushes: A sudden intense feeling of warm over face, neck, and chest. Due to a decrease in estrogen during peri/menopause, your body becomes more sensitive to slight changes in body temperature. Hot flushes can last anywhere from 6-24 months.
Red, flushed skin: Facial flushing, known as vasomotor flush, can happen as you begin perimenopause. During a hot flash, blood vessels in the skin widen which causes a red flush across the skin accompanied with a hot, burning sensation.
Dryness: Dry skin is one of the most common skin issues reported by older women. A survey of 3875 postmenopausal women over the age of 40 years found that 36.2% had dry skin. Once again, hormones play a role in keeping the skin hydrated. Estrogen is essential for skin hydration because it increases the skin’s production of GAGs and oil, improves the barrier function and increases water retention.

Skin and the Menopause
Studies show that due to an extreme fluctuation in estrogen, women’s skin loses about 30% of its collagen during the first 5 years of menopause - skin becomes noticeably drier, thinner, and elasticity begins to decrease due to loss of collagen. After that, the decline is more gradual, losing about 2% of collagen every year for the next 20 years, in which time skin loses its firmness and begins to sag, jowls appear, as well as large pores due to the lack of skin firmness.
